To be able to record sounds without interference, sometimes it is necessary to hide the recording device. This was also the case when my travels took me to countries where travelling with electronic equipment can make you seem wealthy and a possible target for robbery. But the main reason for hiding the device is that when you are recording, you don’t want someone walking up to you, asking what you are doing, and what the device is that you’re holding. Before I came up with this solution, I had a collection of people asking me in different ways what I was doing there, something that ruined the actual recording I was initially doing before they interrupted the session. Of course having a hidden recording device can bring up all kinds of ethical topics, such as privacy infringement and unwanted recording in situations where there is sensitive information being shared, but in my case it wasn’t conversations I was looking for, but merely situational recordings of places, and atmospheric settings.
